Luxury Edition MOTOMING

The latest MOTO MING from Motorola, the A1600 packed with GPS capabilities, was launched in India last month. For some inane reason though, apparently not taking into considering the current state of the world’s economy, the company has recently unveiled a new version of the A1600, a Luxury Edition in Gold that, according to reports, comes with a Cartier business card holder.

The handset, that I’d like to call the Ming with Bling is available in Taiwan for an outrageous price of Rs. 42,995 ($867). I’m wondering if mobile manufacturers really get the word 'recession' with handsets like the INNOV8 and HTC Touch Pro being launched in the country.Source

Motorola Launches The AURA

Motorola has introduced the AURA, a phone inspired by luxury watches, handcrafted design and high performance racing engines. The AURA has a circular display - the first on a mobile device - 16 million colors and 300 dpi resolution on the round LCD and a Grade 1, 62-carat sapphire crystal lens.

"AURA is Motorola's latest endeavor into the high-tier mobile device space and is the result of our continued inspiration to innovate in design, imagination and state-of-the-art handcraftsmanship," said Jim Wicks, corporate vice president and director of Consumer Experience Design, Mobile Devices, Motorola. "From the moment AURA owners hold their phones, they elevate their own experience in luxury and unmatched quality."
Encased in a stainless steel housing, the AURA has textures and patterns chemically etched into its surface. The Swiss-made main bearing, gears composed of Rockwell 50-55 hardened steel and 130 precision ball bearings work in tandem to drive the assisted-opening blade. Motorola likens the effect to that of opening a luxury car doorrather than accessing a mobile device. Its custom-engineered rotating mechanism is composed of more than 200 high-precision individual parts, and the gears are protected from harsh conditions with the same coatings used in high-performance racing engines.
The AURA features Motorola's proprietary CrystalTalk technology and stereo Bluetooth.
AURA is expected to be available around the globe in Q4 2008. Pricing is unknown.

Motorola Smart Rider to be released in June

At the "CTIA Wireless 2008" in Las Vegas, Motorola has announced its "Smart Rider" phone, an in-vehicle phone featuring GPS navigation, interactive voice activation, and Bluetooth. The "Smart Rider", which uses GSM technology, is claimed to offer various GPS services including turn-by-turn navigation and voice-guided driving instructions; precise on-screen directions and detailed maps on a 2.8-inches high-resolution color display; real-time traffic reports and automatic re-routing; and enabling of location-based services (LBS) and fleet management applications.

With Bluetooth technology, users can move freely between offices, homes, and their vehicles -- with active calls, contacts, and other personal data automatically getting transferred from their handsets to the in-vehicle device. The device also allows multiple user profiles for secured access to personalized phone-book settings for up to three drivers. Meanwhile, interactive voice activation, built-in microphone, and speaker phone ensure hassle-free driving, the company said. Golan Haver, business unit manager for Motorola Car Phones, said at the launch that the "Smart Rider" re-defines what communication on-the-go is all about, and the main focus is placed on transforming the user experience. The Motorola "Smart Rider" is expected to ship worldwide in June this year. There is no word on pricing of the phone yet. Source

MOTOMING Reinvented... Again

Motorola has its issues with their whole mobile division seemingly falling apart or simply in a temporary (hopefully) state of disarray but that hasn’t stopped these guys from coming up with new handsets or at least reinventing old ones. The A1200 Ming was a great design concept as it was and Motorola’s desperately trying to make it better. A1600 was the next in line but it seems like they didn’t think that was enough, so enter the MING A1800.

From what we can see in the pictures the design seems to be more like the conventional MING was. The specs however are a different story. The A8100 will be equipped with a 3 megapixel autofocus camera, and get this... it’s a Dual Sim handset. It will support CDMA as well as GSM operators. So far that’s all that’s been revealed. Stay Tuned.Source

Motorola and Kodak May Have Colaborated....

It’s just possible that Motorola has a lot more up their sleeve than we give them credit for. From a leaked video on YouTube, that was removed, Unwired View managed to get a get a few quick glimpses of what the new line up of mobiles would be. Starting off is the new Motorola Kodak handset. It won’t take a genius to deduce that this particular handset would be headed into their Camera Phone category. From the blurry images it seems like this could be a ROKR E8 hybrid considering the touch sensitive styled keypad. Would it have a 5 megapixel camera? Let’s wait and see.Other phones depicted in the video included a silver clamshell handset that gives off the distinct impression of a glass encased earphone with a screen beneath. Could this be the new MOTOMING A1600? Possibly. It also seems like Motorola’s Q9 Windows Mobile handset would also be out with Windows Mobile 6.1. Let’s hope so. There also seems to be a new slider with a scroll wheel for navigation. The colors seem to give it an extremely cool feel.

Of course none of this information is confirmed, but considering the fact that YouTube has removed the video, well, let’s just wait and see. Stay Tuned.Source

Motorola Shows They're Still in The Race

Motorola also had plenty to show off at their Mobile Asia 2008 booth. From their CDMA handsets to the MOTOYUVA entry-level handsets to a 24 karat gold Moto RAZR V8 they were all there. Whatever we saw at GSMA World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, they brought them all out to show their Indian fans that they were still around and kicking.

Among the phones that were on display, was my personal favorite, the Z10 slider. I was hoping to get a look t at it and I was quite pleased that I did. This Banana like slider is a perfect fit for most (if not all) heads. What I mean by that is that the phone is designed to fit and flex a bit to fit your era and cheek. Its 3 megapixel, autofocus camera with xenon flash is better than decent and its scratch resistant display is perfect for clumsy types like myself. Also on display was the E8 with the touch sensitive keypad that is intuitive enough to change in accordance with the music player and camera. What that means is only specific keys will light up depending on the active application. The screen was a bit small (but superbly clear) though, I was told that was due to the scroll wheel. Source

A "Hydrogen Cell" Mobile battery by Motorola !

What if you could power your mobile phone with nothing more than good old H2O? That would really be something! Angstrom Power and teammate Motorola seem to have developed a way to power cellphones with a hydrogen fuel cell. Of course, it's still in the testing phase, with a prototype, but the concept is certainly interesting. Imagine, all you’ll need to do is fill up your cellphone with water – and voila, it’ll start working again.

Angstrom has already developed an LED Flashlight that runs on a similar concept of a hydrogen fuel cell. The good thing is perhaps we can look forward to a cleaner planet in the not-so-distant future.
