Dell has announced the global launch of the Studio Desktop and Studio Slim Desktop - the newest additions to Dell's Studio line.

With a starting price of Rs. 53,400, these PCs include standard graphic support for DirectX10, optional Blu-ray Disc players and built-in HDMI for easy connections to HDTVs. The new Studio desktops feature a glossy black design finish and users can choose from the Dell Studio Desktop, with a traditional mini-tower chassis, or the Dell Studio Slim Tower, that's good for space-constrained environments.
The systems feature six USB 2.0 ports (2 front, 4 back), a built-in 1394a port, integrated graphics that support DirectX 10, HDMI output for connecting to an HDTV or high-definition display, Gigabit Ethernet, built-in 16-in-1 media card reader and 350 Watt power supply on the Studio Desktop and 250 Watt power supply on the Studio Slim Desktop.Optional features include video card upgrades from ATI, Blu-ray Disc drives, Built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi, Built-in TV tuner with remote control and a Wireless keyboard and mouse.

HP Launches New Range of Notebooks

HP has launched a brand new series of trendy Compaq notebooks aimed at those who would want access to features from powerpoint presentations to multimedia entertainment.

The latest Compaq series features a backlit keyboard, finger print reader, HDMI 1.3, a built in TV tuner card, Blu-ray drive and an infra red remote control.

Motorola Adds 3 Phones to Its 'Yuva' Range

Motorola has added 3 new phones to its 'Yuva' range - MOTOYUVA W388, MOTOYUVA A810 and MOTOYUVA ZN200.

"Our YUVA range of mobile phones offers Indian consumers a diverse range of affordable options," said Lloyd Mathias, senior director and head of Sales and Distribution, India and South West Asia, Motorola Mobile Devices. "The YUVA W388 is a multimedia candybar phone, YUVA A810 is a touch screen phone, and the YUVA ZN200 is a slider imaging phone. There's a YUVA phone to suit everyone's style this festive season."

The MOTOYUVA W388 candy bar phone comes with a dedicated music button, an enhanced MP3 player, MusicID application for song recognition and an FM radio with radio data system (RDS) functionality, which shows the name of the artist and the song and the type of music playing on the radio. The W388 also let users record excerpts of songs from FM radio and set an FM alarm.

The W388 allows users to block unwanted callers, features Motorola's CrystalTalk technology for better voice clarity, offers 750 SMS storage and 1,000 phone book entries and an integrated VGA camera that supports 4x zoom and Java capabilities that enable users to download Java games. Samsung Launches New Music Handsets

Samsung has announced its newest series of music phones, Samsung BEATb (model: M3510) and Samsung BEATs (model: M3200) as the starters of the company’s music phone line, "The BEAT Edition". These new handsets come in the form of a bar and slider design respectively. Geesung Choi, President of Samsung’s Telecommunication Business, said the music phone market is one of the fastest growing areas in the mobile industry and still has potential to further grow. "Samsung hopes to set our own music mobile identity with the latest BEAT edition," said Choi, adding that Samsung plans to continuously strengthen its music phone line.Digital Natural Sound engine, also known as DNSe, which is inherited from Samsung's own audio technology , provides more natural sound effects and helps reproduce a genuine 3D sound and deep bass resonance.  

Samsung BEATb and Samsung BEATs offer a variety of music dedicated features. 'Auto EQ' function automatically turns the equalizer into the best setting according to the genre and type of the music users listen to. Canon today announced the PowerShot SD990 IS and PowerShot SD880 IS Digital ELPH cameras. They come with Optical Image Stabilization and Canon's new DIGIC 4 image processor. Canon Introduces the EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR

Cannon today introduced the EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR camera , the successor to Canon’s highly popular EOS 5D, introduced in 2005. Canon has coupled the power of a full-frame CMOS sensor together with HD video capture. Along with the ability to capture full HD videoclips at 1920 x 1080 resolution, Canon’s EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR camera features a 21.1-megapixel full frame 24 x 36mm CMOS sensor, DIGIC 4 imaging processor and significantly lower noise, with an expanded sensitivity range from ISO 50 to ISO 25,600.

It features the Company’s proprietary DIGIC 4 Imaging Processor that powers the camera’s fast 14-bit analog-to-digital conversion for smooth color tones and exceptional gradation. The Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR offers a full-frame 24 x 36mm, 21.1 megapixel CMOS sensor and continuous shooting at 3.9 frames per second (fps) for an unlimited number of full-resolution JPEGs to the capacity of the memory card or up to 14 RAW images in a single burst when using a UDMA CF card. The camera includes a 15-point Autofocus (AF) sensor with nine selectable AF points plus six additional Assist AF points (three center AF points sensitive to f/2.8 lenses) with enhanced light source detection and AF microadjustment for greater autofocus performance. The camera also features 16:9 Full HD video capture at 1920 x 1080 pixels and 30 fps as well as 4:3 standard TV quality (SD) video capture at 640 x 480 pixels and 30 fps, both capabilities appearing for the first time in a Canon SLR camera. Video capture is part of the camera’s Live View function, using the Picture Style that has been set for Live View still image shooting. 
The EOS 5D Mark II will record video up to 4GB per clip or a maximum continuous movie capture time of 29 minutes and 59 seconds, whichever comes first. Depending on the level of detail in the scene, a 4GB memory card can record approximately 12 minutes of video at full HD resolution or approximately 24 minutes in standard definition.Videoclips1 are recorded in .MOV format using an MPEG-4 video compression and sound is recorded using linear PCM2 without compression. The new camera features an input terminal for external stereo microphones as well as a built-in monaural microphone for convenience. To help show off those fantastic movies as well as still photos, the EOS 5D Mark II camera includes an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) output to display crisp, clear images on a High-Definition TV.
The Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR camera is compatible with Canon EF lenses and is scheduled for release by the end of November. Kodak Introduces OLED DPF

Kodak has introduced the world’s first consumer-available wireless picture frame featuring Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) technology. This DPF features Wi-Fi technology  that enables the display of pictures as well as access to videos and music stored on a PC elsewhere in the home. The wireless feature also enables connectivity to online photo and video sharing sites and Internet content portals for news, weather, sports and more.
“Kodak is a worldwide market and technology leader in digital picture frames, and OLED technology was created by Kodak, making us uniquely positioned to bring the benefits of OLED to consumers.” said Pete Jameson, general manager, Digital Devices Group, Eastman Kodak Company. “In addition to spectacular image quality, the new frame’s Wi-Fi connectivity delivers a richer experience to the consumer, enabling them to connect to their favorite social sites and view their personalized content online,” Jameson added.
At the heart of the new KODAK OLED Wireless Frame is an ultra-thin, 7.6-inch diagonal digital panel. The viewing experience is further enhanced by Kodak Perfect Touch Technology, which automatically processes images to improve exposure, brightness and color, and KODAK Image Science, which optimizes image quality for display on OLED panels (180 degree viewing angle).

The KODAK OLED Wireless Frame requires no backlighting, and incorporates an ambient light sensor that optimizes the viewing experience by adjusting display brightness based on the surrounding light. Kodak has also designed a premium audio system into the frame, providing outstanding sound reproduction for videos, digital music and online content. Of course the DPF also has a memory card reader and USB port but more importantly, it comes with 2GB of internal user memory. It also supports wide screen display with 16:9 aspect ratio and 800 x 480 resolution.
The KODAK OLED Wireless Frame will retail for a whopping Rs. 46,000 (US $999) (MSRP) and will be available at kodak.com from November 2008, with additional online and retail distribution to be announced later in the year.

LG Launches Lotus Clamshell for Sprint

Most of you will probably wonder why I’ve written this piece of news, considering the handset in question - The LG Lotus - which is a CDMA device launched with Sprint with a contract plan. The reason is that it’s a flip phone like no other I’ve seen before. This clamshell handset opens up to a full QWERTY keypad with a rather unique fashion sense.

The LG Lotus is available in two color options - textured purple or satin black. It features stereo Bluetooth, a 2MP camera/camcorder and Wireless Backup for safekeeping your contact list in the event that the device is lost, stolen or damaged. Other features include integrated GPS, an external display with music control keys and a 176 x 220 pixel resolution and a large internal display with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution and 262k colors.

The Lotus also uses microSD cards in case users need to expand memory. For media purposes it has a full fledged media player and an FM radio .

Of course it’s quite unlikely that the handset will make it to this side of the Atlantic, but one can hope.

Velocity Mobile Launches HTC Phone Look-alike

Velocity Mobile, a nine month old collaboration between one of the world’s largest notebook computer manufacturers and a team of veteran wireless designers and engineers, have announced the retail availability of their first touchscreen phone, the Velocity 103. The company's belief is that the simplest solution is often the best solution and have thus tried with this handset to combine an easy-to-use Odyssey Interface, Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone operating system and their Velocity Over The Air updates. The outcome is a sleek but rather similar-to-HTC form factor.
"Consumers these days are demanding more from their phones. Our research tells us that people want experiences, not applications and functions," said David Hayes, president and managing director, Velocity Mobile. "Velocity Mobile has brought together some of the greatest minds and best of breed partners in the industry to deliver positive experience and value to consumers."

Velocity Mobile’s core leadership team collectively has nearly forty years' experience in innovative mobile engineering, design, sales and marketing, and is working in collaboration with Inventec Corporation, one of the world's top three original design manufacturers (ODMs) for notebook computers . 
Together, these two companies have developed this GSM handset that incorporates features like a Qualcomm Mobile Station Modem (MSM) with a MSM7201 chipset, a touch screen display with a 640 x 480 VGA resolution, 256MB ROM with 128MB RAM and Bluetooth 2.0. The Velocity 103 also features Wi-fi, integrated GPS, a 2 megapixel camera, TV/VGA out and MicroSD expansion slot for more memory. It uses a trackball for navigation much like you’d find in a Samsung or Blackberry Pearl.
The unlocked Velocity 103 is available for pre-order online now through Expansys for Rs. 26,477 (£334.99) and will ship by the end of September.

RIM Announces its First BlackBerry Flip Phone

Research In Motion (RIM), has unveiled the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 smartphone, the first BlackBerry phone to come in the flip form factor. The quad-band EDGE-based BlackBerry weighs 3.6 ounces and measures approximately 3.9 x 1.9 x 0.7-inch. Featuring two high-resolution, light-sensing color displays, the external LCD makes it easy to preview incoming emails, text messages and phone calls without opening the handset, while the large, 240 x 320 internal LCD displays messages, videos and web pages.

The BlackBerry Pearl Flip smartphone includes features like Speaker Independent Voice Recognition (SIVR) for Voice Activated Dialing (VAD), support for MP3 ring tones, smart dialing, conference calling, speed dialing, call forwarding, voicemail attachment playback and enhanced background noise cancellation. It also features a speakerphone and Bluetooth 2.0 for use with hands-free headsets, stereo headsets, car kits and other Bluetooth peripherals such as a GPS receiver.

It features a large SureType QWERTY keyboard, plus provides access to up to 10 supported personal and work email accounts. The DataViz Documents to Go software suite is also preloaded, allowing users to edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files directly on the handset. The BlackBerry Pearl Flip is supported on BlackBerry Internet Service, BlackBerry Unite!, BlackBerry Professional Software and BlackBerry Enterprise Server, which provides tight integration with corporate email systems and the security and IT policy controls that enterprise customers require to allow smartphones in their organization.

It features a 2 megapixel camera with flash, zoom and video recording, and includes BlackBerry Maps to deliver maps and step-by-step driving directions. An enhanced HTML browser displays web pages in either "Column View" or "Page View" and different emulation settings allow users to choose between desktop-style HTML content and the mobile version of web pages. The browser also supports RTSP for watching online streaming video from sites like m.youtube.com. 

In addition, the BlackBerry Pearl Flip smartphone features built-in Wi-fi (802.11 b/g) with support for UMA (unlicensed mobile access), extending wireless email and data coverage and supporting carrier enabled voice calls over home Wi-Fi networks, enterprise wireless deployments and Wi-Fi hotspots. The BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 smartphone will be available from wireless carriers around the world beginning this fall.

Sony Rolls Out New PS2 Offer

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has rolled out the new series of the PS2 in the Indian market to capture the sales opportunity during Diwali. 

The new PS2 comes in a dual-shade look and sleeker design with the AC Adapter in-built. The console is being introduced at a price point of Rs. 6,490 and with a festive season offer of one free game with every PS2 purchase. Atindriya Bose, Country Manager for PlayStation in India said, "We are excited to introduce the new PlayStation 2 at an attractive and accessible price point for the Indian gamers. Sony Ericsson Launches Their First DPF

Sony Ericsson has launched their very first digital photo frame - the IDP-100. 

Touting it as an ideal accessory to their Cyber-Shot mobile phones, Sony Ericsson maintains that photos can be transferred easily from regular cameras too via Bluetooth, USB flash memory, M2 card, micro SD, SD or MS Duo. Photos can be displayed and managed on the 7" frame with the touch sensitive control menu in it. Users have to just view the slideshow options and pick their personal preference. The IDP-100 features auto-rotation, inbuilt Bluetooth, can store up to 500 images on the internal memory and has a World clock with three time zones. It is compatible with all phones featuring M2 card, micro SD, SD and MS Duo, USB interface or Bluetooth. Sony Ericsson's IDP-100 will be available in selected markets in Q4 in dark grey.
