GTA IV (Indian Release) Delayed

As most of you have already realized by now, Grand Theft Auto IV's Indian release has been delayed. We got in touch with the game's local distributors who could not give us a new date but they're optimistic about getting the game within a week or so.

The reason the game's been delayed is because Take Two is facing acute shortage and since India is not a high priority market we just have to sit patiently and wait till they send us stock. Unfortunately this isn't the first time this has happened to us and I'm dead sure it's not the last time.Source

LG Launches New Black Label Phone

The 5 megapixel camera phone LG was planning to launch has finally come to light in the official sense. The company launched its third LG Black Label Series handset – the LG Secret (Model: LG-KF750) – worldwide on April 24 in London. From the look, it seems to be another of LG’s chic 3G HSDPA enabled handsets... even if the name does leave a bit to be desired.

"The huge success of the previous models of the Black Label Series validated our approach to provide the ultimate mobile experience for today’s discerning consumers, who seek to embody personal style with their handsets," said Skott Ahn, President & CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications. “These are the enriched features that will diversify the way users interact with their handsets, but most of all, the LG Secret was designed to be a style that lasts."

The Secret is made from carbon fiber, one of the strongest composite materials – and one that's used in aerospace and high-performance automotives. It has a tempered glass display (2.4 inches, 240 x 320 pixel resolution) and Neon Touch navigation buttons. The camera is a 5.0 megapixel job, which might just make this the slimmest 5MP camera phone in the market at just 11.8mm.The handset boasts 120 fps video and DivX certified playback. There are photo/video editing features too, including morphing and SmartLight (which automatically adjusts the picture’s light settings). Users can also take advantage of the Movie Maker software to create their own videos.

A Touch Media feature takes advantage of the touchscreen to directly access five multimedia functions with a single button: music, photos, games, documents, and FM radio. Users can flip through photos on the screen while listening to music. The phone can handle Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, and comes with a Google Package that lets you surf the Internet, log into Gmail, use Google Maps, and watch YouTube videos. The Secret has an accelerometer sensor, and LG has included a few games that use this feature. The LG Secret supports Bluetooth with A2DP and comes with an auto-sync feature that automatically synchronizes it with a PC. The auto-rotating display shifts the image on the screen for viewing in any position. The auto-luminance control adjusts the screen lighting according to ambient brightness. External memory is supported by means of a microSD card.

The LG Secret first launched in Europe, and this will be followed by launch events in Asia, South America, and on to the rest of the world. The price hasn't been announced yet, so stay tuned.Source

BenQ Releases MP771 Short Range Projector

BenQ seems to have a pulse for the space constraints of big cities like Mumbai, thus they have come up with a new digital projector model – the BenQ MP771. The new projector provides an ideal projection system for places where the physical layout forces the projector to be placed close to the screen. BenQ MP771 projector's short-throw ratio lens projects a picture of size 74" from a distance of 3.3 feet (while standard throw projectors can project only approx 30") Thus, the MP771 can be used in small meeting rooms and halls, in museums, departmental stores, showcase displays, banks, hospitals and small business houses etc.

BenQ MP771 projects at native XGA (1024 X 768) resolution and features a brightness of 3000 ANSI lumens with a contrast ratio of 2000:1. Since the projector is equipped with short-throw ratio lens, the quality of projection does not get affected with change in the type of hall/room or the distance between the projector and the screen. Further, the auto wall color technology enables the projector to display similar quality image irrespective of the wall/screen color.

In addition, BenQ MP771 features the Brilliantcolor technology that enables 50% brightness increase in mid-tone hues; the 3D color management technology that allows users to fine-tune the six colors independently for hue, saturation to suit the requirements of specific applications, the off & go function and a detachable keypad.

Ish Bawa, Marcom Head, BenQ India, said, "Traditionally, it was thought that a big space is required for a projector to produce large sized image and a white screen for superior image quality. The BenQ MP771 combines the ease of using the projector in a small room with better-quality image without a perfect white screen. The new projector is particularly beneficial for those business houses, which have small and not-so perfect meeting rooms."

The BenQ MP771 has been priced at Rs 85,990.Source

Samsung Launches Another Dual SIM Mobile

It would seem like Samsung is aiming at making their Duos, their dual SIM card handsets, a specialty. There have been so many launched recently it’s getting hard to keep track. Their latest offering is the tri-band Samsung D780 Duos which is not a slider I might add. In fact it has a rather stylish candy bar design.

It’s also quite loaded with goodies to tickle most mobile phone users of today. To start off with, the D780 uses a 2.1 inch, 256k color, QVGA display as a viewfinder for its 2 megapixel camera. It supports USB 2.0 data transfer, Bluetooth with an A2DP profile, microSD cad support for external memory, a media player for music and video and an FM radio. Of course the most important feature is its dual SIM capabilities and the D780 allows both SIMs to be active at the same time which is quite convenient for those who would require a Dual SIM enabled handset.

The D780 will be out in 2 colors - dark silver and mirror silver and should be out in Russia from May and reportedly a little later in Southeast Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.Source

LG To Launch New 5MP Camera Phone

Although it would seem like LG has officially decided to announce the launch of a new 5 megapixel camera phone the name has not yet been fixed. From the looks of the design it seems to be a very classy slider with LG’s touch sensitive technology for navigation. It doesn’t look like it would incorporate the same technology as the KF600 with intuitive icons for navigating menus but more like the KF510 with the animated LEDs.

Other specs would include an LED flash for the camera, a secondary camera for video calling, microSD card support for external memory and possibly 160MB of internal memory. Speculation also says that this handset might also have a reinforced scratch-resistant glass display. As of now it’s just an announcement but it shouldn’t be too long before the official release. Stay Tuned.Source

Gates Hints at Windows Next Coming 2009

Expect the next version of Windows (Windows 7) sometime in the next year or so -- as hinted by none other than Microsoft Boss Bill Gates.

"That'll be sometime in the next year or so that we'll have a new version," Gates is reported to have said during a Q&A session at a meeting of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) in Miami. The audience had gathered to hear him talk about corporate philanthropy. Gates added, "I'm super-enthused about what it (the new version) will do in lots of ways." However, he didn't give details as to what changes or features the new version would have.
Afterwards though, a company spokesperson reportedly said that Gates was talking about pre-release versions of Windows and not the finished product. Yet, it is true that Microsoft has started the developer program for Windows 7, with reports doing the rounds that a test version named 'Milestone 1' has been given to some of the software major's biggest customers.
Also, presently Windows Vista isn't doing too well with several incompatibility and instability issues making users and businesses reluctant to shift from Windows XP to Vista. Microsoft could be in a hurry to release the next version Windows because of this reason. All said, given Microsoft's track record, it may well be late 2009 or early 2010 by the time Windows version 7 actually starts shipping.Source

Logitech Game Controller With Cooling System Launched

Logitech has unveiled a new game controller with a built-in fan-based cooling system, designed to keep the hands of gamers cool and dry.The plug-and-play, full-speed USB Logitech ChillStream controller for PC works on Windows XP computers (with the latest service pack), and with Windows Vista. The metal grille that covers the air intake at the base of the controller accents the controller's silver-and-black color scheme. The controller features Logitech's patented floating D-pad, which uses four points of contact instead of a single pivot point - a design that resists side-to-side tipping inherent in other controllers, making the controller more precise. The controller's analog stick has been machine-tested to perform at least one million circular revolutions, ensuring that it can handle the rigors of gaming over a long period of time.

Logitech's exclusive ChillStream Technology includes a built-in 40 mm fan that circulates up to 3.41 cubic feet of air every minute. Because of the fan's compact size, Logitech can deliver the ChillStream feature in a standard-size controller. Three narrow vents on each side of the controller push air directly onto the four fingers, the base of the thumb and the palm of the hand. The air stream has three settings - continuous, interval, or off. In the interval mode, the air stays on for 15 seconds, then turns off for 30 seconds. The air vents are recessed from the surface of the controller and rubber linings surrounding the vents are flush with the surface. Logitech ChillStream controller for PC comes with a 2-year warranty and costs Rs. 2495.Source

Intel Unveils New Classmate PCs

Intel Corp. unveiled new features for its line of low-cost laptops for schools Wednesday, adding bigger screens and more data storage capacity as the chip maker ratchets up its rivalry with the One Laptop per Child organization, which sells a competing machine.Intel's new Classmate PCs - slated to go on sale in April for between $300 and $500 - reflect the company's growing efforts to sell computers equipped with its own chips to schools in developing countries, a battleground for technology companies because of the millions of people there just coming online. But the target market has expanded to include kids in the U.S. as potential users of cheaper, stripped-down machines.Classmate PCs also are part of Intel's push to generate interest in a new class of mobile devices the company is calling "netbooks," which are smaller and have fewer functions than standard laptops but also use far less power and are easier to carry around.

Other tweaks to the Classmate that Intel announced Wednesday from its developer forum in Shanghai include the availability of both 7-inch and 9-inch screens, a 30 gigabyte hard disk drive and an integrated Web camera. At the developer forum, Intel executives also rolled out five new processors under the "Atom" brand name. The chips are designed for pocket-size Internet devices. The chips come in speeds up to 1.86 gigahertz while using less than 3 watts of power.Intel said its Classmate PCs will eventually use Atom processors.Classmates are based on Intel's design and include its processors, but they are built by other manufacturers and sold under a variety of brand names. The first generation went on sale in March 2007 with the 7-inch screen and fewer functions. Intel said it has sold "tens of thousands" of the machines but declined to provide more specific data.Intel and OLPC have feuded furiously over their competing products. The Cambridge, Mass.-based nonprofit OLPC says it has sold hundreds of thousands of its $188 machines. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology spinoff's low-cost XO laptop includes a microprocessor from Advanced Micro Devices Inc., the world's No. 2 microprocessor maker behind Intel.A short-lived truce between Intel and OLPC ended earlier this year when Intel suddenly pulled out from OLPC's board of directors.Intel claimed it couldn't continue cooperating with OLPC when founder Nicholas Negroponte demanded Intel stop selling Classmates overseas. Negroponte said the dispute stemmed from Intel sales reps disparaging OLPC products while pushing Intel's own machines.Source

Nokia Launches N810 WiMax Edition

Nokia has unveiled its newest Nseries device, the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet - WiMAX Edition, Nokia's first device engineered to take advantage of new wide-area high-speed mobile WiMAX networks. This pocket-sized device lets consumers enjoy an open Internet experience, allowing for access to the Internet without barriers, while on the go. The N810 allows users to easily and quickly access all of their favorite Internet services beyond local area hot spots.

WiMAX is a standards-based wireless broadband technology that delivers an open Internet experience similar to that of fixed broadband technologies with typical data download speeds of up to 2-4 Mbps per user with peak download speeds of up to 10 Mbps. Unlike current single point local area technologies like Wi-Fi, which have a range of a few hundred feet, WiMAX networks consist of a number of interconnected base stations, each with a radius of up to 2-3 miles, that allow for handoffs from one base station to another as users move about a region or metro area. Additionally, WiMAX networks integrate technology designed to maximize the quality of service for each subscriber."By delivering the kind of open Internet experience that consumers previously only expected on a desktop PC, the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition is a compelling example of how next generation broadband wireless technology will not only change the way people think about the Internet, it will change the very nature of the Internet itself," said Ari Virtanen, Vice President of Convergence Products for Nokia.

Along with a full-featured web browser, powered by Mozilla, that takes full advantage of the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition's large 4.13 inch touch screen and slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a variety of popular web-based services are also supported. To keep connected while on-the-go, a number of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Instant Messaging (IM) clients are available, including Skype, Google Talk, and Gizmo5, which can also take advantage of the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition's built-in web cam for video calls. A client for the popular Rhapsody online music service is also available. An active developer community has also emerged around the Linux-based Internet Tablet platform, creating additional applications - from games to productivity tools. The Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition also comes with built-in GPS, an integrated media player and 2 GB of internal memory, expandable to a full 10 GB with microSD memory cards and when not in range of a WiMAX network, the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition can also access the Internet over Wi-Fi or via conventional cellular data networks by pairing to a compatible mobile phone via Bluetooth technology.

The new upgraded OS2008 introduces new features to the platform, including an enhanced e-mail client, support for Chinese character rendering in the browser and RSS feeds and Seamless Software Update functionality to eliminate manual software updates. While standard on the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition, current owners of Nokia N810 and N800 Internet Tablets with earlier operating systems will be able to upgrade their device to the revised operating system for free during the second quarter of 2008.The Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition is expected to be available in the United States during the summer of 2008 in areas where WiMAX connectivity is available.Source

New Ring to the Word 'Married'

Okay, here’s a bummer! Muvon, a Japanese research and manufacturing company, today announced the launch of their most “ingenious” invention made with the intention of curtailing extra marital affairs. The ring can do what most suspicious spouses pay up heftily for - spying. But it doesn’t stop here! The ring can even stop you from cheating, says company spokesperson

“We weren’t concerned with spying all that much. Instead, we chose to limit the occurrence,” says Mee Shai, MD of Muvon. This is how the company was inspired to place two electrically charged pins, each capable of dispensing 10watts of jolts. Also nick-named ‘electric-jabber’, the function is simple - Cause pain when it’s really required.“For this, specifically, the ring contains a receptive valve, that can not only measure your body heat, but also detects changes in body odor, emitted right after your hormones react to the thought or the act of sex,” says Shai. This jolt is intended to deter partners from cheating, while a ray of translucent light will spell in bold — “ I AM MARRIED”.“Of course, while engaging with the right partner, you can do so without the ring. You can, however, lock the rings on your partner, requiring a code to be able to take it off,” added Shai. The ring is to be available soon across the globe, and is going to be “quite affordable” according to the MD. Well, after this, I think marriage will be history, eh?Source
