New HOME THEATRE systems from BOSE

Bose has jumped on to the upscaling bandwagon. The mega audio corporation has just expanded its Lifestyle product line with the introduction of the V30 and V20 home theater systems. According to the press release, the two systems "provide high-quality audio and video from almost all entertainment sources available in the market, including those with HDMI."

The Lifestyle V-Class systems integrate easily with HD televisions and components such as DVD players, cable/satellite boxes, DVRs, MP3 players, and gaming consoles. Each system delivers 5.1 surround sound with the help of five small speaker arrays, a receiver ('media console'), and a subwoofer ('Acoustimass module').

All audio and video sources connect to the media console, which can be hidden away in a cabinet or closet. The included RF remote can control connected sources, and what's more, it's a learning remote.

The Lifestyle V30 includes five award-winning Jewel Cube speaker arrays, which deliver performance rivaling many larger speakers. The V20 system includes five Direct/Reflecting cube speaker arrays. Each system features a horizontal center channel speaker array, which helps to provide clear, focused dialog and balanced surround sound.

Both systems include the proprietary ADAPTiQ audio calibration system, which analyzes and automatically adjusts the system’s sound to the room, speaker location, furniture placement, and listener location. Bose Link, an expansion feature, can extend the music benefits of each system to 14 additional rooms.

The V30 and V20 systems are available in black or white. The V30 will sell at Rs 1,91,138, and the V20 will cost Rs 1,29,263. They will be available in Bose stores and from the company website, starting today.

The LG KF510 Slim Slider to debut at GSMA 2008

GSMA 2008 is almost upon us, and LG has made it amply clear that its new KF510 mobile handset will make its debut at the event. The slim slider has LG's famous touch-sensitive navigation under its display and is loaded with a 3 megapixel (and possibly auto-focus) camera.
It’s not just the intriguing design, but the colors too – such as Stardust Gray or Sunset Red – that will make the KF510 an eye-catcher. The phone is quite slim at 10.9mm, comes with an MP3 player, and is Bluetooth-enabled.

The LG KF510 will officially launch in March this year. We’ll have to wait a few more days, however, before we get more information on this new slider. Stay tuned.

MUSIC SOLUTIONS FOR YOUR CAR

Portability is in, especially in music. Almost anyone can afford an MP3 player of some sort today. But we’re not here to talk about portable MP3 players... well, not quite. What we’d like to talk about are alternative solutions for music on the go. In your vehicle, that is. Most people who have cars may not necessarily be able to afford expensive music players, so what we’ve outlined here are four items you can pick up from any car accessories store. These are cheaper alternatives to an expensive CD player. All you need are a decent set of speakers and perhaps a lighter for charging. You can invest in any cheap cassette player that has a radio.

MP3 players have become very affordable, but we are NOT suggesting that you use earphones while driving, under any circumstances. A good alternative would be to buy a dock station, which can also be used as a portable speaker that runs either on batteries or current supplied by your car’s cigarette lighter socket. If you have an iPod, there are plenty of choices from big names like Creative, Logitech, and even Bose.

Most come equipped with 3.5 mm pins that fit into your MP3 player's earphone socket (you can get a converter if you player has a 2.5mm socket). Just make sure you choose one that isn’t too big or you may have a problem with space in a small car. You could also connect your mobile phone to most of these docks, provided you have the required cable. You won’t even need in-car speakers.

Intex EUP-802
Simply put, this is a modulator targeted at people who own an old cassette stereo system in their car, and don’t have plans to upgrade in the near future. It's as simple as it can get: just plug it in and you are ready to go.

The device works using radio frequencies. You need to choose the frequency on the modulator and it will transmit the music on that particular frequency, which will be picked up by the FM radio on your car stereo system. The modulator comes with a USB slot, a 2.5mm jack, and an SD card slot. It works using the cigarette charging socket in your car, and costs only Rs 2,000.

MobiBLU DAH-220

The DAH-220 is basically a flash-based player with a mechanism to play content through regular (3.5mm) earphones. At the same time, it also manages to transmit data through the heads, which enables playback through your dogeared cassette players/tape recorders.

However, the playback quality is better than that of your analog tapes. Since there is no reel involved, there is virtually no hiss or white noise while playing it through a cassette player. It costs Rs 2,500 and is worth a look. For the complete review, click here.

If you're completely broke, there’s another cheap alternative. It’s really simple – just find someone who likes to sing – and there are plenty out there – and have them travel with you all the time. At most, the only price you might end up paying is for your sanity.

FASHION PHONES - Launched by Samsung

Although Samsung is not so impressive in the mobile phone market in India which is dominated by NOKIA and SONY ERICCSON, still they have brought up some good news for all the ladies who would like to leave a style statement with their cell phones. The L310 and L320 clamshell phones sure seem like fashion statements for the fashion conscious woman.

THE L310

The L310 clamshell, available in black and gold, is a tri-band handset with a 1.8 inch TFT display that has resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. What makes it so feminine (aside form the fact that it simply looks like something a girl would buy), are the applications that Samsung has thoughtfully incorporated into the device – including apps that assist in shopping and counting calories. It’s a very compact handset (with dimensions of 93.4 x 44 x 17.9 mm) and is equipped with Bluetooth and USB 2.0. It has a 2 megapixel camera and microSD card slot, and supports GPRS and EDGE for internet connectivity.

THE L320

Samsung's second fashion phone is the L320, also a clamshell. But unlike the square-edged L310, the L320 has a curvier look. It has an external OLED display and a 1.9 inch internal TFT LCD with a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. Features include Bluetooth and USB connectivity as well as GPRS and EDGE for net connectivity. It comes with a microSD slot for external memory and a 2 megapixel camera.

Both phones will be out in February – but only in select markets. The L310 is priced approximately Rs 13,846 (240) and the L320 will cost around Rs 12,695 (220). There’s no official word yet whether they’ll hit the stores here.
