Buffer Configuration
1. Click Start -> Run...
2. Type sysedit and hit Enter.
This command will open your System Configuration Editor, which has four windows open: SYSTEM.INI, CONFIG.SYS, WIN.INI and AUTOEXEC.BAT.
3. Click on the SYSTEM.INI window, place the cursor after [386enh] and hit Enter.
4. Type Irq14=4096. Make sure you type it correctly because the command is case sensitive.
5. Go to File -> Save in order to save the new configuration.6. Close the System Configuration Editor and restart you computer. The most speed improvement is visible with IDE drives, however there are reports that this tweak also does good for SCSI disks. In any case, it won't harm your system, so why not give it a try yourself.
